The first mention of ‘Israel’ that we know of dates to the 13th century BCE in the Merneptah stela & refers to a specific ethnic/political entity in western Palestine - “Israel is laid waste - his seed is not.” We also use the term Canaan and Canaanite to describe the…

That’s the Merneptah stele itself, dated to about 1205BC. That shaded rectangle on the second last line is the passage in question.

It lacks the hill hieroglyph determiner that is associated with a people with a land. Others don’t. This describes a people without a land. Nomadic or semi-nomadic.

The ancient Egyptians were in Egypt. Except The Akhenaten priests who fled to Canaan after his death . Possibly introducing monotheism to the polytheistic Hebrews .

Of course the Egyptians mentioned defeating an “ Israel “ in The Merneptah Stele in 1200 BCE but it could have been a myth -

Mentioning “ Israel “ does not make “ Israel “ a kingdom.

The merneptah stele mentions an “ Israel “ in 1200 BCE. It could have a man. It could have been a tribe. It could have been a myth.

There are many mentions of Zeus. That doesn’t prove his existence. Hope that helps !

There is no extra biblical evidence of a «  Moses” or of the Egyptians enslaving “ the Israelites “.

There is The Merneptah Stele which says Egypt defeated an “ Israel “ which could have been a man , tribe or myth

We know The Akhenaten priests fled to Canaan and may have influenced them

What in heaven's name? They had the wherewithal to show the Merneptah Stele (only about 2,500 years before their cited date) which is renowned for its mention of "Israel," not "Palestine." How you get your info so wrong with a (maybe?) right picture is crazy.

Yes, the Israelites, a nomadic people are earliest attested on the Merneptah stele.

Very interesting chronology. Did you know that the oldest dated stories of the bible emerge around 1200?

I didn’t mention a city. I’m asking very direct questions and you’re bouncing all over the place.

You said jews, then said Israel. The Israelites mentioned in the Merneptah stele do not have a settled land.

You didn’t say Israelites. You first said Jews. Judea doesn’t come until later. And I asked about the Zionist claim on the land.

Also, the Merneptah stele is explicitly missing the hilltop hieroglyph that would denotes settled land, describing instead a nomadic or semi-nomadic people.

The Merneptah Stele, an Egyptian inscription dated to 1208 BCE, mentions “Israel” as a people already present in Canaan.
It uses a people determinative, not a city or state, suggesting a tribal or ethnic group, not yet a kingdom.

Also in case you did not learn this in civics class in High school,
The name Philistine aka palestine was CREATED by the Ottoman Roman Empire in 1517 after they won the war against Israel.

Read the plaque in Cairo Egypt Museum of natural history.
called (Merneptah Stele)

As pictures here.

You understand that Philistine is an older word for Palestine, right?

And no, the Hebrew language doesn’t emerge until 1250BCE or so. The earliest mention of the Israelites, a semi-nomadic people, is the Merneptah stele in 1205BCE.

A estela de Merneptah foi encontrada em Tebas. Ela contém a única referência a um grupo chamado ‘Ysri’ ("Israel") nos registros egípcios.

1/ Experts examine the 2.4-metre-tall Egyptian statue of Merneptah, the fourth pharaoh of the Nineteenth Dynasty of Ancient Egypt, (circa 1213–1203 BCE) which was just revealed from a packing crate at the Palace Museum in Hong Kong on October 28, 2025.

The Israelites, a people without a land, don’t appear in the records until the Merneptah stele of about 1205, and Hebrew doesn’t appear until 1250ish.

Who is it that had the land prior to this period?

This post brought to you by me waffling all night how to draw the diaphanous men’s robes from New Kingdom Egypt, before realizing they didn’t necessarily suit Mitisetja anyway and the tunic I had before was FINE

The first mention of Jews (then "Israelites") in the Levant is 3,000 years ago in the Merneptah Stele.

It is possible to support Palestinians without denying Jewish indigeneity to the region.

There is plenty of archeological evidence from the Iron Age referring to the Kingdom of Israel outside of the Bible or Israel’s borders.
Why don’t you look up for example the Merneptah Stele
