Not only was the "look how fast Australia reacts to gun violence" stuff presumptious, the specific guy who enacted those 1990s gun laws has gone full on racist maniac, decrying gun control and turning the Bondi attacks into a xenophobic hate-fest (journalists euphemise this as a "culture war")
John Howard’s dog-whistle intervention in gun debate all but dashes any hope of meaningful reform
In the absence of strong, swift action from Anthony Albanese, the former PM is shifting political debate from gun control to a divisive culture war
