After sharing a bark collage a few weeks ago and seeing how much you enjoyed it, I thought I’d share some more. Close details from Anglesey Abbey last weekend, where bark, lichen and fungi create endlessly varied patterns.

The slime mold sporangia are only about 2 to 3mm high.
Photo of a dozen or so tiny, bronze coloured slime mold sporangia that look kinda like tiny cups on short stalks…the cups have covers. The slime mold is on a green, leafy lichen.

A deep blue cloudless sky. Emerging out of the forest onto cliffs of gray and reddish brown rock speckled with light gray lichen. This part of the cliffs has a wild profusion of moss, grass, shrubs and the occasional small tree growing in a thin layer of soil across much of the rock. A weather-beaten tree with a tangle of gnarled limbs stands just to our left. A large patch of moss at its feet is an electric yellowish green in the bright sunshine. To our right the tops of tall trees peek above the edge of the cliff. Their foliage, and the foliage of the many shrubs up top are a riot of yellows, golds and oranges. The sun, offscreen top, is shining directly at us, creating a patchwork of long dark shadows, splashes of bright sunlight and rich backlit autumn foliage.

吉香公園、モジゴケ天国の生垣迷路。
バッサリ背丈半分に切られて心配してたけど樹もコケも大丈夫そう。

生垣迷路の樹の幹。半分が白黒のモジゴケ類、半分がビビットな緑と黄のコガネゴケか何かで覆われている。このモジゴケ類の子器は太めで分枝少ない。 同、他の幹。また他のモジゴケ類。子器は太めで放射状の分枝。他のベージュ色の固着地衣類との境目（帯線？）がくっきり。 また他の枝。1枚目と似たモジゴケ類。なぜか輪型に痛んだ箇所がある。 また別の幹。痛んでる感じでなぜか赤く染まったモジゴケ類。上から迫って来た葉状地衣類（シロムカデゴケ？）はモジゴケの上には来れないみたい。ベージュで小さなドット柄の固着地衣類を割って出て来てるまっさらな枝。

Will always feel like home… grew up in a small town with loamy Oregon forest as my backyard, littered w/ decaying trees felled by wind & man, endless varieties of moss, lichen, fungi, fir needles, and moisture… a creek def burbling nearby, all criss crossed by animal trails and old loggin’ roads.

One of the things I enjoy about the PNW where I live...after a really heavy rain, everything smells damp and earthy. Reminds me of camping in the middle of the woods up in the mountains. It smells like that today.
