as I got them in the ground, the summer heat arrived and the creek bank exploded with native annuals whose seeds must have been waiting for their chance. American bittersweet, jewelweed, cinnamon willow herb, and American burnweed all grew in profusion.

Small clumps of reed canary grass remained

This plant is so beautiful it's been mistaken for an orchid! Impatiens noli-tangere is an attractive forb with large yellow flowers that stand out in the later summer. Very abundant at Wagner Natural Area just outside of Edmonton. #nativeplants #yeglocal #explorealberta #nature

The spotted impatiens or jewelweed is invasive yes---but hummers love it. Just sayin'. It is easy to pull out and I police it every year. The one I have is pink and white and was nicknamed "poor man's orchids" here.

That orange flower along wet trails?
Jewelweed.
It explodes its seeds if you touch it.
Nature has jokes.

LIKE THOSE PLANTS E RHE POPPING SEED PODS, JEWELWEED???
January 4, 2026 at 9:07 PM
Oh, that counts? Heavens. I’ve been stealth sowing wild bergamot, helping jewelweed by popping their seed pods, shaking the seed heads of the pink asters I planted in our pollinator garden at school. Birds are welcome to any and all, plus they drop seeds from the feeders - gift sunflowers!

The Natchez Trace Parkway cuts across the very northwestern corner of Alabama. Colbert Park and the parkway’s bridge over the Tennessee River are highlights. The Rock Springs nature trail is a gem, especially when the jewelweed is blooming and hummingbirds are numerous.

Missed out yesterday because everybody was closed. Stocked up today because I have a feeling I might be here a while.

Some summer photos for those of us who are tired of the cold and gray already

Found more bees! Watching them stuff their face into jewelweed is really the best show in the whole swamp.

Do you have any questions about bees?

Missing summer!

Here is a lovely bloom from Wagner Natural Area, just outside Edmonton.

This is Western Jewelweed, or Impatiens noli-tangere as the scientific name. In Wagner this plant is visible along the Marl Pond trail in July to early August. #yeg #edmonton #alberta #nativeplants #gardening

From a certified herbalist I get these luxurious and practical body & bath stuffs. All are steeped in island folkways she learned from her parents.

The plaintain and jewelweed salve is my favorite. (For cat scratches. 😄)

Leaves fallen at pond bottom, large oak burl, small bullfrog, jewelweed (touch-me-not) - all were photographed in Spring Grove Cemetery (Cincinnati, Ohio)

milkweed, jewelweed, sunchokes, goosefoot - i only dabble in learning about the native plants here, but those are all edible. Arrowleaf or whatever in marshes. Cattails great for making fire...

did these displace more delicate plants millenia ago?

How about jewelweed or strawberry flowers
October 27, 2025 at 7:49 PM
I keep finding friends in interesting places... today, it was some Spearmint tucked in behind some Goldenrod and jewelweed. I had some homemade vanilla sugar and thought, hmmm... the holidays are coming, I'm quite sure I can find something delicious to do with this!
Any suggestions?

Days shortening and temperatures dropping. Planning is getting serious...and I just realized I don't have a single true annual in the plan. That needs fixin'. At least annuals don't need to overwinter.

(Jewelweed doesn't count. It takes 2 winters & a summer to even sprout.)
