I actually felt the exact same way about the book I'm currently working on. Normally, I do sci-fi horror, but there's been a fantasy book I've been wanting to write for ages. So glad I've had a chance to dive into that.

CONTENT WARNING! ❌‼️
My work deals in heavy topics, such as parental abuse, self-sabotage, targeted manipulation, and the effects of gaslighting. It depicts somatic and visceral scenes of flashbacks, does not shy away from the psychological horror of battle, even in fantasy, and is written for adults

That run of cosmic horror authors have never been surpassed in that. Most horror and fantasy you can kind of feel how "built" the world is. Even when it is great and impressive, you get that it came from Some Dude.

The cosmic horror guys somehow made it feel more discovered than invented.

My 2025 roundup isn't as impressive as others'. I only had one story published (a hazard of working full time while also going to school). "We Told You of the One Who Lives in the Mound" appeared on PseudoPod in July.

“The spears of the day shall not touch them, the chains of the sun shall not hale them forth.” Beneath a forest canopy of flowering trees and fruiting vines, there lived a talented beetle.

I loved the story and the movie, too. That character was also part of "Penny Dreadful", a fantastic horror fantasy series.

"Asunder" by Kerstin Hall was a wonderful read for me. Horror/Fantasy that scratched a kind of itch I don't often find. Weird, fucked up, brutal and intense, but not without its beauty and wonder.

Having fantasy catboy thoughts.

Would be cool to have Marryll (the ghost) using like classic haunted horror movie tropes to do psychological warfare against a group in like a fort.

Bloodily scratching "Each man bled dry is one man closer to your own neck" while the catboy is just stabbing dudes

Guillermo Del Toro has such a fascinating filmography. Because you have all these movies of dark fantasy, thematic depth, and horror like Pan’s Labyrinth, and Frankenstein… and then right in the middle is Pacific Rim. That’s not a criticism, I’m just saying there’s whiplash.

I also love supernatural and fantasy themes. 👻🧚

You have a great sense of movement and posing with characters. Really love the vibes on that room for the last one, it's such a great supernatural/horror feeling! ✨

The worst books I read are: Technically, my lowest rated book was The Haven, which was presented as a horror book about dogs eating people, but it was actually a not great high fantasy adventure novel. I rated it so low because I felt mislead, but the Slob was probably actually the worst book I read

It's almost the end of the year, so I know that means you all want to see my book statistics for the year! (there is some weird glitch saying I read two books by Robert Bloch when I read only one, sorry about that)

My personal Best Books of 2025 list is HERE!

It was so hard choosing my favorite books for this list. I read over 100 books; I ended up exploring a lot of genres I normally wouldn’t have otherwise and so many ended up being my favs of the year. Can’t wait for more great books in the new year :)

Just finished Red Rabbitt by Alex Grecian and really enjoyed it. I like blended genres, and the mix of western, paranormal horror, and dark fantasy really worked for me. The writing stayed out of my way and let me lose myself in the story.
