Good thread here. I think it's a helpful illumination of how extensive homebrew is rarely a huge redesign all at once; it's more likely to be a series of kitbashes and houserules over time. And that work is often very rewarding, and satisfying, in ways that "find a new game" isn't.
i've been referencing it in replies, so, hey, let's talk about my group's homebrewed version of Burning Wheel Gold, which we've been playing/creating since 2011.

Good thread here. I think it's a helpful illumination of how extensive homebrew is rarely a huge redesign all at once; it's more likely to be a series of kitbashes and houserules over time. And that work is often very rewarding, and satisfying, in ways that "find a new game" isn't.
It does. It's time for the maker and indie computing spheres to converge and provide homebrew alternatives. Perhaps they won't be as powerful to start with, but that's how industries begin. If the techbros want scarcity, you fight them by providing what they want to deprive you of.

Best way that I've played is an oculus. I used an Oculus Go and a Bluetooth game controller. OGo's are selling for as little as 30 bucks on ebay right now, but you can sideload the apk on to any standalone oculus. They are even homebrew VB games and ones that were never released in America.

I routinely homebrew the system that I run. I enjoy being able to tweak it into the precise shape I want. However, it just makes more sense to me to start from a foundation that is closer to that shape, rather than one which requires an almost complete deconstruction in addition to the construction.
