If metacurrency ruins your immersion, then unless you've been doing some FKR bullshit, then every other RPG you've ever played has also done that. All of them require doing things that are "meta".

There must be examples of ttrpgs out there that explicitly detail/have rules for "how to win" at them?
Like, there is direction (get this treasure, save this person, banish this nightmare) but the concept of winning feels like it should be in conflict with the narrative but I am not sure that it is

One thing I'm realizing as I'm writing the history stuff again is that I think the reason so much of sci-fi treats aliens as the way they do in a lot of 4x games and the like, IE Mass Effect, is that it makes it easier to make it about the good people vs bad people instead of really reckon with it.

Anticipation often starts with the eyes. Viewers can be "primed" to look somewhere by following a character's gaze.
Keep Alives are fidgeting, blinking, breathing, etc. when a character's not the focus of a scene, e.g. listening to a conversation.
