Mam Tor, a spectacular univallate hillfort (bank, ditch, berm and counterscarp bank) at the western end of the Great Ridge above Castleton. Excavations by Dave Coombs (University of Manchester) in the 1960s suggested a Late Bronze Age date.

Mam Tor, a spectacular univallate hillfort (bank, ditch, berm and counterscarp bank) at the western end of the Great Ridge above Castleton. Excavations by Dave Coombs (University of Manchester) in the 1960s suggested a Late Bronze Age date.

The trail skirts the ravines leading down to the Genesee River gorge. I like walking here.

A couple weeks ago at Letchworth State Park. I parked the car at the east side Hogsback Overlook. I walked south along the Finger Lakes Trail until sunset then headed back.
Then the sun dipped below the edge of the solid overcast and I had bright sunshine until almost sunset. I welcomed it.

I wasn’t expecting to climb a mountain yesterday but I’m still glad I did. Funny how I didn’t think to take any pictures until we were descending. Looking at Hogsback and Sugarloaf and Lake Superior and the many other rock outcroppings at Harlow Lake and Little Presque Isle, N of MQT was awesome

I wasn’t expecting to climb a mountain yesterday but I’m still glad I did. Funny how I didn’t think to take any pictures until we were descending. Looking at Hogsback and Sugarloaf and Lake Superior and the many other rock outcroppings at Harlow Lake and Little Presque Isle, N of MQT was awesome
