I love this film. Yes the American version is not as good. This movie is also the start of the Gamera likes kids trope which was ignored in Gamera vs Barugon but reinforced in Gamera vs Gyaos and kept till the end of the showa period.

the kids these days just know instinctively from the time they are conceived that 'king kong escapes' and 'gamera vs. gyaos' both released in '67, and are responding accordingly.

Shōwa Gamera is overall fun, but that GYAOS entry is the best.
Everything about this scene from Gamera vs. Gyaos is just incredible. Like it might very well be the best kaiju movie of the 1st Monster Boom. I love the abstract unreality of stuff like the TV being possessed by Gyaos' green glow

Shōwa Gamera is overall fun, but that GYAOS entry is the best.
Gamera vs Gyaos/Baragon/Guiron are some of my favorite Showa era monster flicks. They have a vibe that's all their own.
Everything about this scene from Gamera vs. Gyaos is just incredible. Like it might very well be the best kaiju movie of the 1st Monster Boom. I love the abstract unreality of stuff like the TV being possessed by Gyaos' green glow

Gamera vs Gyaos/Baragon/Guiron are some of my favorite Showa era monster flicks. They have a vibe that's all their own.
🟠honestly I think Gyaos might be the '60s Kaiju movie to actually hit the hardest? like there's 100% stuff I like more in Ghidorah or Mothra or King Kong but this is the one that I think you FEEL the most? it cuts through the layers of satire and irony and weirdness to something real

I've always been a big Godzilla fan but never dived into his turtle cousin's adventures before now. As a reboot of the Showa era films, its very good! Love the mysticism and angle on the humans being prey for Gyaos. It had great music and cinematography too.

I really thought this guy in Gamera vs Gyaos was Akiji Kobayashi, I was confused since he sounded different but just look at them side by side, they would've been great casting as brothers
