3. Advanced Geochronology
4. History 1: Europe
5. Arctic Science

The last one sounds a bit vague, but it was a combination of astrophysics and ice /snow.

Happy #FossilFriday we just got page proofs of our paper on the diversity and geochronology of our #InnerMeadow site so let’s celebrate by sharing the first #Erniettomorph from the #Ediacaran of Newfoundland, #Phyllozoon (right) with a bonus #Bradgatia top left.

I don't WANT to begrudge brewery culture, but as a person with celiacs, I am really tired of my educational and networking opportunities being tied to them. I do not need to be in the wheat juice factory to learn about and discuss geochronology, tysm.

How do you date brittle #deformation in sedimentary basins? Boschetti et al. (FR) combine U-Pb #calcite dating with #RSCM thermometry to unravel the polyphase tectonic history of the Vocontian Basin at the Alps-Pyrenees junction:

Even with excellent exposure and SotA geochronology, we can't always tell if depositional ages are real.

2/3 If you're transitioning fields, like moving from hydrogeology to geochronology, highlight transferable skills and relevant experiences that resonate with the new role. This not only shows your versatility but also your genuine interest in the position.

Unfair question: If you were hiring college graduates in Earth & environmental sciences today, would you be happier to see "Earth Hazards & Mitigation" or "Geo/Env chemistry & Geochronology" on their transcript as part of their degree?
January 6, 2026 at 10:11 PM
but I do a lot of stable isotope geochemistry and geochronology to bridge the gap between reality and theory. When I was applying for “broad tectonics” positions, I definitely stretched between hazards/neotectonics and met pet with an emphasis on structure.

*splitting this out as it's irrelevant to the thread*

"If you are a hydrogeologist but want to apply for a postdoc in geochronology, don't use the same CV and cover letter as for a hydrogeology posting."

Do people actually accomplish transitions like that?

I've been thinking on getting back into illustration and making some infographics on my favourite subjects; Australian native plants and animals, ecology, paleontology and geochronology.

Should I?

1. Apply to whatever position interests you, but tailor the application to the posting. If you are a hydrogeologist but want to apply for a postdoc in geochronology, don't use the same CV and cover letter as for a hydrogeology posting.

Earth revolutions.

How did they know that?

4.543 ± 0.002 billion years comes from Pb–Pb dating of the oldest meteorites (CAIs), using the U-238→Pb-206 & U-235→Pb-207 decay ratio, with results verified across many samples & methods.

I want to congratulate Planet Earth on successfully completing 4.54 billion revolutions around the sun thus far.

Way to go, chap.
