She is my girl Spikella, with a tomboy personality and a slightly sharp, teasing sense of humor. She loves to work out and can summon beasts or animals made of cactus

The flower in her hair is from a Ferocactus they have beautiful, colorful blooms that grow on top of the cactus.

The Golden barrel cactus (Echinocactus grusonii) and Red barrel cactus (various Ferocactus species) are drought-tolerant, cold-hardy and require similar simple care, but make sure to plant them with the same sun orientation they had at the nursery for the best results.
Green Valley Gardeners: Cactus for year-round garden colors
Cactus plants can be breathtaking when in flower, usually during spring or summer. However, for brilliant cactus color year-round, look for those with colorful spines, also called thorns.

Just got a small ferocactus latispinus for my growing collection and hope to get blooms at some point. I hear this kind is particularly easy to bloom and do so while young so hopefully even potted I get some flowers.

My cactus and succulent club recently toured the private garden of one of our members. He had several of these 30-40 year old Ferocactus. What an amazing plant! 🌵

This young "fire barrel" cactus (Ferocactus gracilis) has grown wider and rounder this year. They're mostly round until 5 years old when they start becoming cylindrical and can reach 5 feet tall. I'm really enjoying this size though. 🌵

Plant of the week!
Scientific name: Ferocactus wislizeni
In the arid landscapes of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, where water is scarce and conditions are extreme, this cactus not only survives but also becomes a fundamental pillar of the ecosystem.
