One of my worldbuilding projects for GodSeed has been to flesh out species on the planet, Tellure. Most animals are the same as earth, but with differences usually in shape, size, colorways, and some other unique traits.

Realm of the Elderlings is one of the best high fantasy series I've read. It's long but they read quick. Great character work and worldbuilding. I'm working in Book of the New Sun right now re: sci fi but I'm not far enough in to recc or not!

There's an essay or two about the problems with those door-stopper fantasy trilogies that drown the reader in worldbuilding and extensive casts that would map pretty well onto the show's trajectory.

Hopefully this will be a fun self-contained adventure one can watch with the kids.

@thewhale1851.bsky.social ). But even Worldbuilding Fantasy generally works through allusion, metaphor, or inference, rather than a treatise.
