Forever grateful that FamilyHistorian has a merge records option. I do very carefully check every name before I add people to the #BoatFamilies tree but mistakes are still made!
Now at 1500 boat men and women, plus children, and loads more to add..

Ah I had Dropbox first. Was only when I had a new laptop with updates it saved everything else! The worst problem though was my FamilyHistorian backups that took up so much space. Old laptop didn’t put everything on OneDrive. Deleted old backups as I backup 2 other places as well which solved it

For those #genealogists who use #FamilyHistorian for their #genealogy research, a handy little plugin for those times when you need to change a specific fact for a specific individual or family.

#AncestryHour But like anything, once you have subscribed to a lot of sites, it's a question of diminishing returns on any new one. You have to wade through the things you've already seen to find new things. Which is why it's helpful to have tools like FamilyHistorian or GenSmarts to help.

And this why #BoatFamilies research is messy
Emma is in the tree already, so are 2 of the children separately. Now I have to join them up in one family group & then track the other 7 children to see where they ended up. Fully expecting them to marry into other boat families!

That is a benefit of getting my research onto FamilyHistorian (see earlier discussion). I know it wasn't a close relative, but if I come across them again, I'll flag as I've done the research so you can add it into the study as it was slightly complicated if I remember.

How did I organize 40 years worth of memories all jumbled in multiple shoe boxes? One photo at a time (and lots of index cards) 📸 #organizing #memories #familyhistorian #photos #turning40 #archiving

#GenChat Other features of FamilyHistorian that I like:
- the add on Ancestral Sources facilitates entering records like census and church records where you have multiple people in the record
- easily extensible via plugins

#GenHour This is not what you asked, but Ancestry Networks now allow you to what you can do in FamilyHistorian, namely, make a little box around a person in a photo and attach that to their profile.

I haven't played with metadata tags because I don't have many photos.

Now this is a horrible tragic first for my research. And this is only the 12 children that I know about from baptisms, there may be more. Sadly no burials for the children but their names are now remembered.

Today I attended my first #FamilyHistorian User Group on zoom. I was able to ask a question about RootsMagic and FH, and learned from listening to the answers to others’ questions #GenHour

It’s #Christmas time again! What do you get the #familyhistorian who wants to bury themselves in the past?
Cheap as chips : a FHS subscription - usually about £15-20.
Pricier: subscription to a #familyhistory magazine.
Pricy: subscription to one of the online packages
Trust me - they will love it.

I haven’t read last month’s article on #FamilyHistorian by @geniephil.bsky.social yet, but I’m really interested to learn more about these different products. I’ve used FTM for 15 years, but it’s always worth learning about alternatives.

#AncestryHour
I use FamilyHistorian as my main program, but I have a copy of 2019 so I can look at Ancestry GEDCOMs side by side with FH. I haven't upgraded FTM yet.

Found an even worse version by moving up the diagram! The names aren't legible in this but they are all boat families 🤣
Fair play to FamilyHistorian, I'm amazed it hasn't just gone 'nope, not doing that'! #OnePlaceWednesday

#AncestryHour Maybe pull a GEDCOM from your Ancestry tree and make a separate FamilyHistorian project for it, get your MH hints that way? I have an old copy of FTM and the free RootsMagic to play with, too, so I can open FH and a foreign GEDCOM side-by-side.

Do what works for you!

Agreed! It's the kind of information that would be handy to have on hand for every country. I always want to make charts or spreadsheets for myself and then to build queries for FamilyHistorian, but I never get around to doing it.

I use FamilyHistorian on my PC. Excellent for reports, queries, linking of witnesses etc. Can make your own queries, I have 1 set up for boat people, another one to show easily BMD and parish records so I can see missing data. And it creates diagrams like this!

#OnePlaceStudies Have spent the afternoon tidying up placenames and coordinates in Family Historian. This is the map for the #BoatFamilies. A few random outliers but you can clearly see the route of the Grand Junction Canal and its various arms!
