even though our unions have long been hollowed-out shells in the wake of the accords, i do think they are still the most important locus for building, at the rank-and-file level. even if it means a huge uphill fight to force disaffiliation with the alp so they can become something useful again

Couldn't agree more, Jind. I resigned my membership of Unite bc of Sharon Graham's capitulation & continuation to fund the Labour right. But as you say, there should have been mass disaffiliation a long time ago now, over Blair's anti-union legislation

A) Christina would probably have won (certainly done better in) a vote of the NDC this year - my default assumption is that it will tend towards Egan over her term, but two- thirds is a big ask and...
B) Even if she actively comes out for disaffiliation, not sure TfRC would en bloc

This is something I am desperately lamenting about how the UMC is running (in most places) right now.
Funds from disaffiliation could have been great seed money for new congregations in growing places, or to fund full-timers there. It's largely gone to bureaucratic preservation.

The name change from Arkansas PBS to Arkansas TV came straight from the Governor’s office and is rooted in their plans to strip educational programming from publicly accessed television. Due to disaffiliation, programming that enriches all ages will leave the station.

Unite has long since been paying only the affiliation fee, and is now looking for funding alternatives, following a huge vote at conference. The Gen Sec cannot act unilaterally, so Disaffiliation has to be decided by a conference, but Graham said the mood in the membership is to disaffiliate.

From what I read SMU disagreed with the policies the UMC put in place in 2019 when they were trying to stay together. Since disaffiliation they have rolled back some of these policies in the last General Conference.

There's also just been massive religious disaffiliation since the 1960s. This in itself deserves critical social investigation, but is one clear reason for the decline of the Christian left in general.
