dBpoweramp Music Converter 2024.11.04
On this ancient Dell and just found DBPoweramp. Used to use this to convert stuff to mp2 so it could be played out by RCS Master Control. All the mp2 encoding and decoding on that system was done via ISA cards!

Ah nice. Will check out freac - I’ve been using dBpoweramp CD Ripper for some time, it looks a little old-skool and is paid, but is simple enough & rips FLAC files well.

I say this because I have a Japanese special edition of a Royksopp album which has DRM and doesn't rip accurately in dbPoweramp or EAC.

The amount of artists whose CD offerings are seemingly tacked on, in favor of interesting wax releases, is too damn high.
Buying a legal copy of dBpoweramp and ripping the disc in FLAC and 320K MP3s takes like 5 minutes, I am amazed at how easy it is compared to just a decade ago

I have a literal wall of CDs still, though I'd like to rip & ditch maybe half of them eventually. (Tinnitus has made me very much less of an audio snob these days.)

It doesn't integrate with desktop F2K unfortunately. It's a fine standalone music player, but I've ended up preferring Neutron or dbPoweramp for android flac player. I'm hoping to move to Tangara or similar music device for audio next year & see if I can get away with a minimalist phone

Tried to get the Whipper container set up. Kept complaining about the lack of CD drives.
Ended up just installing dbPoweramp in WINE and being done with it.

It does occur to me that hearing things without all those high-tones, with the slight muffling of audio (or video) tape, is weirdly comfortable to me. That's why sometimes I'll put my music through what I call the "late night tv mix" DSP chain in an attempt to mimic that old tape sound.

Slimline optical drives are slow. To rip a full disc in under 3 minutes, get a full size drive and a SATA-to-USB 12volt powered adapter. DBpoweramp software is nice for automatic metadata and skip-free rips.

First time I've encountered a CD mastered with pre-emphasis. I always knew this CD sounded off whenever I played it, now I know why.

I would recommend an mp3 player. Just something disconnected entirely. It takes a little more work but it's nice.

That's it - should be an exact copy. I usually use flac format - it's what I'm used to and the software (dbpoweramp) hasn't ever let me down - but there's all sorts of formats out there. This is just my favourite old warhorse!

I wish there was 1 program that was very good at ripping CD's AND setting metadata on them AND organizing the whole folders of a music library AND converting FLAC to vbr mp3
right now I'm kludging together dbpoweramp for almost all of it, but musicbee is doing the folder organizing

I have a feeling this is going to choke on the optical drive pass through even if you do get the folder permissions right...
Have you considered dbPoweramp? They have a pretty nice ripper, and they've had a Mac version for many years now. It's how I extract my audio... no video support though 😞

also I don't think dbpoweramp likes how I'm trying to handle the move after conversion so that's why using a staging folder would fix it

I love dbpoweramp too but I find it a bit useless at handing .CUE files

Several years ago, digging through boxes to find a CD I was thinking about, it hit me to rip all of them to my NAS.
Got an accurate ripper (DBpoweramp) and spent months going through the boxes and so happy I did. I'll see a post here and think "I have that" and can listen to it immediately.

For Music CDs, I have turned to dBpoweramp + PerfectTunes. It is great for finding the MetaData, but you can manually change it as needed. You can also apply Album Art easily for media you already have outside of Music CDs. Below is that program Windows/Mac only:
