"The report identifies that the greatest challenge is accessibility to the city centre and promotes the ‘ten-minute town’ concept, to encourage shoppers to areas such as Barna, Claregalway and Oranmore."

You'd swear FF hadn't been the party in power that allowed the development of Claregalway and Oranmore with insufficient wastewater treatment, sporting and community infrastructure.
You could read this and think Cllr Keane is actually interested in doing something about this.

The double bypass without strings for Baile Chláir (Claregalway) just shows there's little science behind any of this. It's bad planning begets bad traffic which begets sloppy fixes.

The damage done by decades of underinvestment in public transport (and healthy transport) needs to be undone.
November 26, 2025 at 6:24 PM
Payback time for the road construction lobby.

Here in Galway we have the likes of Noel Grealish TD literally demanding two bypasses. One for the city, which would be a steroid injection for more car-dependent sprawl, and another for the town of Claregalway, already bypassed by the M17.
Four months after it was promised, we finally have the government's transport investment plan between now and 2030. It's bad. Roads are in, public transport is out. A lot of public transport projects being put on the long-finger to make funding available for new roads.
