I discuss ruins from ancient Rome to Clandon Park (via Clerisseau's ruin room in S Trinita dei Monti). tinyurl.com/2s3wy4cw
Change and decay | TLS
One of my favourite ruins in Rome is hidden within the convent of S. Trinità dei Monti, at the head of the Spanish Steps. Not an “authentic” ruin at all, it is a clever trompe l’oeil (or fake) in pain...

Gillian Darley makes the case for keeping Clandon Park in ruins #fromthearchives
Keeping Clandon Park ruined | Apollo Magazine
Critics of the National Trust’s plan to keep the fire-gutted house as a ruin are ignoring the organisation’s history and that of the building itself, writes Gillian Darley

Yesterday we held our Authentically ADHD event, in partnership with Sellafield's S.L A.D.D-ers group. ✨

The day was a fantastic opportunity for people who support those with ADHD, and people with lived experience of having ADHD to gather and share stories, tips and ideas.

After the 2015 Clandon fire- National Trust said
" we can reconstruct these beautiful ceilings"

Now they want Clandon as a ruin with fire-blackened bricks and the interiors unrestored. NT say the bare walls are “fascinating" and say restoration is a “plastic pastiche."

BBC South Today properly duped by astroturf far-right group “Restore Trust”. The non-story about Clandon House was just a pretext to get free publicity for their entryist efforts to get their stooges onto NT Council. Also no sign of RT report into Clandon online. Does it exist?

I trust the National Trust to get it right. I last visited Clandon many years ago, long before the fire. It was beautiful and the fire was a disaster.

However, restoring Clandon is not the same as preserving, as NT were doing pre-fire. RT have an agenda which is rooted in politics, not what’s best.

Helios is currently at Basildon Park and looking spectacular, even after the sun sets.

Soon it will travel to Clandon Park in Surrey, Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire, and then Kedleston Hall, Derbyshire: buff.ly/lZBNpDA

Have you seen it yet?

The argument at Uppark was that the insurance money was only available for one purpose - reinstatement. I wonder why Clandon would have been any different.

It exemplifies the Restore Trust understanding of the complexities of heritage decision-making. Restore Clandon Park to when? And why? The preserve-in-aspic heritage model was well debunked in the 80s. Buildings fall down. They live in a 'fairy tale world of cotton wool and nostalgia' (quote-ish).
