#cerebellar
Happy that @virginiatech.bsky.social & @childrensnational.bsky.social are supporting our research on the cerebellum in Down syndrome.

We believe that understanding cerebellar function will open up therapeutic avenues to improve movement in people with Down syndrome.

The lesion has hypointense thickened cerebellar folia giving it a striated appearance. The cerebellar folia are hyperintense on the axial T2 MRI (below). The lesion did not enhance.

The diagnosis was Lhermitte-Duclos disease.

Research projects in synergy with the lab’s research strengths (e.g., advanced microscopy, understanding of the role of cerebellar Fañanas cells, or astrocytic calcium signaling) are especially encouraged.

I have eye issues associated with my cerebellar ataxia. My eyes can't follow a moving object between 2 points accurately, the muscles are weak & lack control. This is called abnormal saccades, & exercises to try and slow its advance often don't work.

We find that human Bergmann glia emerge far earlier than previously appreciated (~11PCW) and actively scaffold migration of both granule and Purkinje cells, revising a decades-old model of cerebellar development.

Language areas in the cerebellar mapped by @coltoncasto.bsky.social: www.thetransmitter.org/language/cer...
Very consistent with @carobellum.bsky.social functional atlas, but providing deeper details. By now the "terra incognita" of the cerebellum isn't so "incognita" anymore!
Cerebellum responds to language like cortical areas
One of four language-responsive cerebellar regions may encode meaningful information, much like the cortical language network in the left hemisphere, according to a new study.
