Taking a relaxing bath after a truly awful drive in the rain, snow and sleet. It’s good to be home.

📖: The Eyes of Gaza by Plestia Alaqad
Genre: Nonfiction, memoir
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5

i’m reading the myth of normal & have hundreds of highlights already. this one hit so goddamn deep:

“that some attachments may not survive the choice for authenticity is one of the most agonizing realizations one can come to; and yet, in that pain, there is freedom.”

Fantastic book so far. A bit heavy on the god stuff but otherwise I’m enjoying it a lot.

There is an interesting short review by Doug Johnstone in last week's Big Issue of Ann Morgan's Relearning to Read. She says while comfort reading has its place, we 'should be getting comfortable with discomfort in reading ... & that we're better readers as a result'

Reading in the bath for a little bit, window open, listening to the rain fall outside. Munchausen mom is super intensely frustrating; I don’t think I could handle that. 🛀📚 😌👌💨

📬 While I was reading @molcher.bsky.social’s excellent “I Am The Law” I became interested in the history of #JudgeDredd.

Fortunately, the footnotes and “Further Reading” section mentioned “The Mega-History”. It seems OOP here 🇬🇧 but I found a used copy on WoB 🤗

Hey folks. Been reading Mi'Sel Joe's memoir the last few days.

This one's must-read for Newfoundlanders especially, because it's a memoir that was taken orally of the longtime Mi'kmaq chief of Miawpukek First Nation (Conne River).

It's very down-to-earth & brings it all home for me.

Hooray.

My 200th book was Truth Telling by Michelle Good. Highly recommend, especially for Canadians who take their Indigenous anti-racism seriously. Be prepared to feel uncomfortable, and to sit with some seriously ugly truth.

Rebels at Sea by Eric Jay Dolin

Grade: B

Rebels at sea covers the history of privateers in the American Revolution, and their impact on America’s victory - something I had never heard of. Interesting but not gripping, written as a general historical account.

📺 Watching this interview certainly raised an arched eyebrow 🤨 when David Z. Morris describes EAs and “rationalists” (a term that I’d never heard of before) who apparently dismiss knowledge and expertise 🤯 [4:45].
