Were there any starter packs especially good at finding other biostatisticians? I'm a bit new here. Joined long ago but I was mostly inactive until a few days ago

Would love to hear an apposing opinion, but all I want is for all the economist to post econ crap in one place. I don't need crossover with memes or whatever. Maybe would be nice if sociologist, biostatisticians, other academics also posted.

We statisticians use “natural log” scale to depict small next to large numbers.
We biostatisticians use “log10 scale” eg depicting HIV load.

Trick is to interpret results clearly for logarithmic scale graphs.

my spouse and I dressed up as a 95% confidence interval at a grad school party of biostatisticians, who didn't get it, and we STILL didn't blame anyone else for not getting it. misfiring is misfiring.

STOP DOING POTENTIAL OUTCOMES

"imagine if this observational study was an RCT"
- statements dreamed up by the utterly deranged

"we're not trying to understand causality here, just estimating the effect of interventions"
- real words by real biostatisticians

they have played us for absolute fools

PARASOL biostats leads Abigail Smith and Margaret Helmuth gave a guest lecture today in @mesohaline.bsky.social’s #HamiltonCollege BIO 202 Biostatistics class - Nice examples of statistical methods & considerations in longitudinal studies and clinical trials & real life impact of biostats work

A review of user-friendly freely-available statistical analysis software for medical researchers and biostatisticians
Most experimental medical research, if not all of it, heavily relies on statistical analysis. The difficulty of using statistical software is one of the key reasons why many researchers struggle wi...

Why should you care about #DataMisclassification? Because it leads to inaccurate results. But whether or not there's already gold standard data available, biostatisticians can help ensure your research is valid. #PittHSRseminar

This is interesting. I’ve been a quantitative public health researcher for years and work with many biostatisticians, but never knew what the precise distinction was from statisticians.

Tell them to talk and listen to their biostatisticians and trust expert judgment on the subject above their own. If nothing else gets through, that message will do enormous good. It’s hard to teach doctors very much about stats other than humility in a 1 hour session…

Similarly, we learn from other fields like biostatisticians. Does everyone need to read this literature? Not really. As long as everyone adopts what we import from that field (e.g. equivalence testing) does anyone else need to read the original papers? That is just a waste of time.

I just have to say one of the joys of being a physician and epidemiologist is collaborating and working with biostatisticians--typically so thoughtful, knowledgable, and helpful

I have been co-directing CICADA's analysis core for the past 5 years, and have seen the tremendous mentoring and networking support this group provides. Biostatisticians are welcome to apply! Please share with your networks!

shout out to biostatisticians everywhere

The discussion by biostatisticians about poor stats understanding of investigators is directed outwards. We need a hard look in the mirror. We have been prioritizing abstract math over scientific collaboration for years, in graduate education and in our promotion structure 1/3

My attempts to convince epidemiologists and biostatisticians about the switch relative risk

Epidemiologists and biostatisticians are allowed to disagree.

We have different needs, different skills, and work with different audiences. So we will inevitably prioritise different things.

Research is a shared activity to add to knowledge. Good faith queries are essential & statistics insight is particularly welcome. Persistent queries by biostatisticians Baggerly and Coombs saved patients at Duke from being assigned to chemo drugs based on a bogus algorithm that had no constant. /1
