Approximately 11,000 years ago a massive star exploded some 900 light-years away in the southern constellation Vela. The result, the Vela Supernova Remnant, was here marvelously recorded by the astroimaging team of Bob Fera and Steve Mandel. Enjoy!

I don't normally shoot solar, but I had to work on the focuser and well, the sun was out. I'd love to get me one of those fancy Lunt scopes. Big bucks to see some plasma fly. I've spent too much already. #astrophotography #qhyccd #photography #solar #sun #solarsystem #sol #telescope #astroimaging

yeah it is *really* good, and honestly has the best alt-text from ALL the astroimaging bots. Sets the standard IMO!

Created and run by @kellylepo.bsky.social who does a very well deserved round of applause for putting extra effort into alt-text being this good.
