The species evidently became an important symbol following the destruction of Vasuda Prime. We never see any art of the creature itself, but the Tauret has a very iconic shape and I thought that was probably taken directly from the silhouette of the Apsu-hek.

Unlike Apsu, Dahak's art isn't drastically different. It does have a bit more aura and menace though from switching him to being black with the red being from magical energy.

The old design is actually a fairly old school dragon design and there's an appeal to that.
The new one kinds just looks more imposing and cool, but also still has that aspect I think Apsu should have as the presumed father of dragons in that he looks like a little "generic dragon template"
