White-tailed #tropicbirds 🕊️ circle & whirl around the summit eruptions of #Kīlauea Volcano 🌋. It's an amazing thing to witness as these fragile-seeming bright white birds, koaʻe kea in Hawaiian, skim & glide so close to the roaring lava fountains 🔥.

White-tailed #tropicbirds 🕊️ circle & whirl around the summit eruptions of #Kīlauea Volcano 🌋. It's an amazing thing to witness as these fragile-seeming bright white birds, koaʻe kea in Hawaiian, skim & glide so close to the roaring lava fountains 🔥.

I have seen red-tailed and white-tailed tropicbirds, we spy them sometimes, tho much easier to see on Kauai. I got some good tropicbird pics when I was on my honeymoon up in Kauai in 2022.
