NYC voters have a chance today to remove redundant veto points to housing production. Ballot questions 2-4 would revise NYC's charter to make it easier to approve affordable housing & small projects. Technical & wonky? Yes. Important to increase supply? Also yes.

Like everything else, rents respond to increased supply by going down. In addition to the research linked below, you can also look to Austin’s rents or what happened in SF when 10% of our population left during COVID. furmancenter.org/thestoop/ent...

Re: Last post about a book. Since don’t wanna just post about books that make me mad one book I’ve read that I adored is Thisby Thestoop. Genuinely adorable, funny and all around a joy of a book for any and all ages and the audiobook is by one of my favorite narrators. Highly recommend!

As a State Senator, I've passed legislation to expand homeowner protections — critical resources for Black and Hispanic New Yorkers.

As Mayor, I’ll continue to fight for those who face barriers to legal assistance.

Even modest increases in supply per year relative to demand make a big difference in working class rents after about a decade, and decent differences after a few years. Restoring mortgage access to the working class would make things go even faster.

In all the major social democracies zoning looks absolutely nothing like America's. And I realize I'm doing the meme but read this 23 page paper about why zoning worsens segregation (as intended) and harms the environment.

1. Abolishing racial zoning was "deregulation." Few care about the sheer quantity of regulation, it's about quality.

Research broadly supports the conclusion that housing supply growth either:
a)reduces rents
b)slows rent growth

This being true doesn't mean that low-income subsidies aren't needed. An equitable city expands supply & subsidizes <60% AMI rents.
