5 Ways Putumayo Changed the Music Industry (And Why Dan Storper’s Legacy Matters More Than Ever) - That Eric Alper
This morning, the world lost a musical visionary. Dan Storper, the founder, creator, and president of Putumayo World Music, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, after a battle with cancer. He was 74. For over a decade, I had the honour of doing PR for Putumayo in Canada—helping bring their beautifully curated […]

They don't cite me, but that's okay. I'm totally not crying. Finally is a new paper by Harald Bathelt (my PhD advisor from all those years ago) and Michael Storper critiquing regional developemnt and related variety. Glad I'm not cited here! www.informahealthcare.com/doi/epdf/10.... #geoinno

Dan Storper was one of the good guys in my book. He loved music from all over the world, enough to evangelize the world through his label Putumayo. His Putumayo CDs, with their distinctive artwork, were ubiquitous in bookstores in gift shops all over the world.

An extremely selective survey of recent lit on housing supply and still it manages to mischaracterize the two studies cited.

Manville, Lens, Monkonnen (2022) show this inability to read and present the literature accurately is a consistent challenge for Storper.

Folks like Storper and Conda should be held in the same regard that actual public health advocates hold RFK.
Julie Testa is back. She says CALE has hosted wonderful guests like Michael Storper (lmao) who have explained that California has more housing units per capita today than ever before and that the crisis is not a supply and demand issue.

Claims "build build build" is a false narrative.

Thank you Andres. You wrote about #Storper so beautifully, subtly and delicately that it couldn't have been expressed better. I admire him a lot, he is truly a legend of both economic geography and regional development. We are very lucky to have it as a discipline. So it is very well-deserved award.
The ERSA Prize goes to Michael Storper—a scholar who has made #cities legible, #regions intelligible, and #theory usable.
Few have married rigour and relevance with such grace. Fewer still are as admired in print as they are in person. A richly earned honour.

They had a debate in @IJURResearch about the nature of city/planning. Scott/Storper argue we can see cities as processes of "the dynamics of agglomeration/polarization, & the unfolding of an associated nexus of locations, land uses & human interactions.
