There are good movies that are bad adaptations (Fantastic Mr. Fox, many Frankensteins and Draculae) and bad movies that are bad adaptations (The New Mutants, any Simon Stålenhag adaptation, also many Frankensteins and Draculae).

But are there any bad movies that are good adaptations?

The Simon Stalenhag art that the show is based on evokes that same feeling from me, like a familiar nostalgia for another life where these things might've been possible.

Reading this has made me curious to read more Simon Stålenhag stuff, I plan on getting tales from the loop and things from the flood next time I bounce by a book store
Been meaning to get this

Fascinating interview with S Stålenhag, thank you for posting it (and writing it!).

Just saw the trailer of "Good Luck Have Fun Don't Die" and it felt scummy that the film gave me more Simon Stålenhag vibes than the actual Simon Stålenhag film.

The Electric State (book)
Beautifully haunting art and a great story. However through all the horrors of consumerism, war, and ghosts in the machine, the thing that really struck with me was the uniquely human evil on display.

These are very cool, they remind me in grandeur of the work of Michael Whelan and Simon Stålenhag. Not so much how they look or are executed, just the sense of vastness and mystery. That feeling of being part of a complete, alien world.
