#Senensky
There are other notable differences in style, like camera placement and way more camera movement. In my conversations with the late Ralph Senensky, he lamented the decline in production craft, saying he could not watch modern TV, and reminding us of John Ford: “move the actor, not the camera.”

Six weeks prior to the VV run

Art Pepper - alto saxophone
Bernie Senensky - piano
Gene Perla / Dave Piltch - bass
Terry Clarke - drums

An excellent interview rounding out the 3rd disc by Hal Hill. And excellent liner notes including Laurie Pepper breaking down the process of producing these albums

You are right, though, that the main reasons were the loss of Gene Coon and antics by Shatner and Nimoy. The loss of Coon had a big impact on Senensky as well, as the quality of production started going down. It’s so sad that nobody seemed to realize the gold mine that was Star Trek. #TOSSatNight

A Dream for Christmas aired on ABC this evening in 1973. Directed by the versatile Ralph Senensky & co-written by Earl Hamner, Jr, this sentimental tale about a determined pastor joining a struggling congregation in southern California stars Hari Rhodes, Beah Richards, Lynn Hamilton & Robert DoQui.

If it was actually directed by Ralph Senensky then nothing bad would happen

This is a great shot. Ralph Senensky never felt constrained by TV production limits. #TOSSatNight
We can credit the late great Ralph Senensky for this attempt to redirect the viewers on what son/sun the slaves are talking about. #TOSSatNight

Infographic time! Here's a recap/overview of my scores for Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS).

Considering this is the show that set the standard for the franchise, the series average is fitting—3.0 is my baseline for what Trek should ideally be.

Interesting which writer ended up on the bottom!

I missed the news that Ralph Senensky had passed. It was a privilege even to be able to leave comments on his blog and get a response from him -- what a legend. One of those lights from an age, now lost, that's just blinked out. :-(

Among many things, he gave us Spock hanging from a tree, happy.
Sorry to note the passing of journeyman TV director Ralph Senesky at the age of 102. Beginning in the Goldren Age, he would direct eps of dozens of classic shows, including six STAR TREKs. He was also the last surviving director of an original series TWILIGHT ZONE installment ("Printer's Devil").

Ralph Senensky had a huge collection of golden age movie posters in an upstairs bedroom. Hundreds of them. Disappointed at how few of the classic movies I had seen, he rattled off a list of “must see” movies, which I scribbled down as fast as I could. Here is his list. #TOSSatNight
