According to the South East Northumberland Rail User Group, that money would buy 2 Northumberland Lines. SENRUG also have plans to improve Cramlington rail services so there are alternatives to the roundabout.

We’re also wondering how the roundabout will affect Newcastle’s air pollution problem.

SENRUG want the capacity at Manors increased to 4 tracks and this to eventually extend to Benton junction.

The roundabout is already enormous - making it even bigger will only induce more traffic & potentially increase Newcastle’s air pollution problem. What solutions are you & @emmafoodymp.bsky.social suggesting for that?

The SENRUG Rail plan would be a much better solution for Cramlington.

Cramlington residents are likely to face delays when Newcastle’s urban motorway roadworks begin next month. SENRUG has a plan for Cramlington rail that would help but rather than lobbying for it, @emmafoodymp.bsky.social & Northumberland councillors are focused on making a massive roundabout bigger.

Thank you. That’s good to hear - the other thing we can’t help wondering is whether Manors Railway Station would be eligible for any developers contributions for some of the SENRUG plan or to reopen the “Get Carter” steps?

Older stations need this too - the SENRUG plan for a rail & metro interchange at Manors is very interesting.

The Northumberland line already has overcrowding issues (RAIL 1034). OVERCROWDING. ISSUES.

but yeah sure nobody will ever want to travel by train post Covid, and definitely not outside London, amirite 🙄

It was good to meet with Dennis Fancett from SENRUG: The South East Northumberland Rail User Group yesterday to discuss the initial success of the Northumberland line and to discuss potential extension.

This must be the beginning for a new era of rail in our region.

A campaign group says a railway line's new timetable is "bad" for north-east England. South East Northumberland Rail User Group (SENRUG) understands the changes to the East Coast Main Line, external, due to come into operation in December 2025, mean Morpeth will lose three LNER northbound and two southbound services, as well as a "vital" commuter service from Alnmouth.

The “chair of SENRUG, said: "Whilst we support providing more train capacity between London& Edinburgh, this should not be achieved by reducing services in Northumberland, which is bad for the region.”

This is concerning, as Newcastle needs its rail with the flyover/Tyne&Redheugh bridges situation.
Campaigners say changes to East Coast timetable bad for North East
LNER says the timetable will mean quicker journeys, but opponents say smaller stations will miss out.

3/That’s not easy for individuals to do - but SENRUG has shown that collective action has achieved something unimaginable to most (a new railway). There’s also the example of Chester-le-St Station, where the buildings were reopened because a private business had a vision for the railway.

Thrilled to hear confirmation yesterday that the Northumberland Line will officially open to passengers on 15th December.

It's been a long campaign, including groups such as #SenRug and the actions of one of our own Directors over 19 years!

Well done all involved!
