Because you’d never know from the British media. The two big National stories are:

Northern Rail Link. Linking 5 Major Northern Cities gets the go ahead.

Wind Power. Ed Miliband brings Britain significantly closer to Net Zero in 2030.

Don’t let the media’s indifference make you not value these

It’s been quite a couple of weeks for Newcastle United but then isn’t every couple of weeks these days, the matches keep coming thick and fast. An away win in the league at Burnley, home wins against Crystal Palace and a thriller against Leeds United have seen the club up to a more respectable 6th place, its highest this season. This was followed at the weekend by an energy sapping win (eventually) against Bournemouth in the FA Cup.

Happy New Year, I hope it is good for you, though looking at the news these days I am not so sure. The festive period is always billed as the most wonderful time of the year and yes, it is lovely to have some time off from the grinding mill, to spend time with family and friends. It can also be hard work, with all the present buying, the food cooking and generally being nice to people you long ago decided to live apart from.
