Many of us learned this bird as the Cape Petrel but now it goes by the name Pintado Petrel. Some birders prefer QR code Petrel. By any name they're striking seabirds that love to visit ships to make sure their beauty is easy to observe. At sea west of South Georgia 🪶🦑

It's been a while since I've posted so why not come back with a #SuperSeabirdSunday post.

On Boxing Day we went to see the Newburn bridge Mediterranean Gull. At this point there was 2 but this has increased to 3!

Counting down the days til bird banding starts up again!

Band-Tailed Pigeons have migrated away.
Golden-Crowned Sparrows and gobs (that's a technical birding term) of seabirds have moved in for the winter. I suck at IDing them.

Time to install the heated feeder for the Anna's hummingbirds.

The Red-billed Tropicbirds of Isla de Pajaros are a majestic sight with that long streaming tail. Bird Island is out in the more turbulent seas past the protection of the Bocas del Toro archipelago. An uninhabited island like this is perfect for nesting seabirds to nest away from land predators. 🪶
