#SBSOnDemand Made in England, The Films of Powell and Pressburger, 2024. Gorgeous and very personal reflection on the astonishing films made by this unlikely filmmaking pair, from a compelling Martin Scorsese.

A ★★★½ review of The Public Enemy (1931)
Cagney and violence are the two biggest features of this early gangster classic. You can see the cinematic DNA of The Public Enemy that trickled down to the works of Coppola, Scorsese, and the rest (e...

At first I was puzzled as to why Scorsese would want to adapt this but then 1. It became a baroque AFTER HOURS and 2. I remembered he had a child later in life with a wife who has a debilitating illness so this could wind up incredibly personal. Liked it a lot.
Starting this, as it might be the next Scorsese movie

I just watched the new Scorsese doc from Apple TV, and DePalma is part of it. Seeing him made me Google his film list to refresh my memory. Carrie. The Untouchables. Dressed to Kill.Scarface. Carlito's Way. The underrated Casualties of War. Mission Impossible.
Also, this. A pretty good run,I'd say

DePalma’s 1974-93 run is legendary in my book. Almost Scorsese-esque.

See, this is why i tell "film bros" are chronically dumb. Film, is just the way we record images to make a movie. What this dumbass wants to say is what Scorsese did "entertaiment vs art". But where Scorsese came off as someone with a point, You come like a parrot that needs a dictionary
The difference between film and movies.

The jingling keys that is Deadpool and Wolverine isn't bad just isn't saying anything. Movie.

Logan had a lot more to say. Film.

Happy #LetterboxdFriday, #filmsky! My #LastFourWatched include Cast a Deadly Spell, the classic Lovecraftian noir HBO movie starring the great Fred Ward, and Murder By Contract, a low budget hitman movie that heavily influenced the work of one Mr. Martin Scorsese.

Valem nada?"

I haven't had Japan on my list until the last few years. A movie, actually, kick started it. "Silence" by Scorsese.

Pretty easy flight from Seattle. FL, not so much ...😉

PERSONAL PROBLEMS (Bill Gunn, 1980)

A smart and painfully intimate soap opera about the life and loves of a nurse from Harlem. Screenplay by Ishmael Reed.

In another sort of world, we would discuss Bill Gunn alongside Scorsese.

"They're gonna need a fuckin' wreckin' ball to take me outta here!"

Yer classic Scorsese narrative of 'This is a fun lifestyle, oh shit, #TheFeds are a-comin'!' Entertaining, great soundtrack, solid performances, plus the shock appearance of Joanna Lumley too - and entirely predictable.
