The Ladypool Rd is one of Birmingham’s busiest and most vibrant streets. But poor parking, speeding and dangerous driving make it unsafe. Imagine what it could be with safe streets, space for people and thriving local business. Time to act - pedestrianisation must be on the table.
#SafeStreetsNow
Still not sure why I cycle Ladypool Rd - even with scooters & delivery riders it feels unsafe. We’ve seen awareness with the Bahu Trust, the teenage pedestrian thrown into the air & most recently a 22yo killed at Stratford/Ladypool

This road is crying out for pedestrianisation

Saw the aftermath of a crash on Ladypool Rd (a 20 mph street, thankfully no casualties) on my way out, but didn’t let it spoil a brilliant women’s ride from ACP 🚲 Rae Valley, the Worcs & Birmingham Canal, Bham Uni & the @a38cycleway.bsky.social all in! 💚 #TogetherWeRide #BrumbyBike #SafeStreetsNow

Potentially good news for parents/carers walking, wheeling or cycling their children to school in Reading. The council is considering removing the 5 minute observation window prior to parking enforcement that so many drivers abuse during the school run. #rdguk #safestreetsnow

This is a problem in North America too. People walking are told to make eye contact with drivers but half the time I can't even see them through their tinted windows. Drivers literally get away with murder! #CarBrain #SafeStreetsNow

Canadians fought for walkable streets.

Toronto, 1968: In North York, residents had been demanding a traffic light on Victoria Park Avenue at Parma Court for two years. Then on November 16, nine-year-old Linda Adams was killed crossing the road there. ...

Morris Street has a school on it - why is Tim Houston trying to make it less safe for students attending it? We just had a child killed in a residential area by a driver. How many more children are we willing to sacrifice to shave a few minutes off commute times? #SafeStreetsNow
PC MLA Tim Outhit voted to approve the Morris Street plans on 1 October 2024, consequent to staff's recommendation. The Premier must refer to and follow professional advice.

Traffic safety advocates are at Rainier and Charles this morning to mourn the people who are expected to be killed by traffic violence - if the city continues to maintain the existing dangerous conditions in this rapidly growing area close to future light rail.

These stories are so disturbingly common but this one makes me particularly sick to my stomach. Two parents in jail and separated from five of their children, because the sixth died while crossing a dangerously road just two blocks from home. But the driver and the road designer face no charges.
A 7-year-old's parents were arrested after he was killed by a car. Now they're speaking out from jail.
Samuele Jenkins’ and Jessica Ivey’s cases raise complex questions of parental culpability and how his checkered arrest record could influence the severity of charges.

Last weekend in Bristol, children on bikes took over their city centre! They were seen and heard. They had a blast.

But the aim of #KidicalMass is also serious. This is not the everyday norm. Children across the UK need #SafeStreetsNow.
