An interesting thread, Ed. Once upon a long time ago, well 1970s when I started, we had children with needs. Visiting advisers might identify "Specific Learning Difficulties" or SpLD, which helped to focus on specific need rather than a label. Subsequent EdPsych assessments had background data.
