#Pharmacogenomics
(3/4) The AMA seeks to embed African data into global drug discovery. By harmonising regulations, boosting local trials and promoting Africa-led pharmacogenomics and biobanking, the AMA can help to ensure that treatments are safe, effective and equitable for all people of African ancestry.
Africa finally has its own drug-regulation agency — and it could transform the continent’s health
If it gets things right, the first major regulator of medicines to launch for 30 years could empower Africa to tackle African challenges around health and disease.

Additionally, 3% had secondary findings linked to cancer or cardiovascular disease, and 60.3% received medications that could be optimized through pharmacogenomics. Survival analysis revealed significantly higher 3-year survival rates for those with fewer genomic risk factors.

GxTs in a dish suggest a treatment target that has already demonstrated efficacy in model systems and human populations. We're interested in pursuing this model more broadly to answer pharmacogenomics and gene x environment interactions. Thanks for reading!

Excited to share our new preprint on molecular gene x treatment interactions led by Jordan Valone, Brandon Le, and @nanamatoba.bsky.social. www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1.... Here, we tried to further develop the "pharmacogenomics in a dish" approach for psychiatry.
Assessing molecular gene by treatment interactions using a population of neural progenitors exposed to valproic acid and lithium
Gene by treatment (GxT) interactions likely contribute to variability in clinical response, but are difficult to identify in population studies. Here, we applied psychiatric and neurological disorder ...

yeahhh, i learned that certain SSRIs like Lexapro stay in my body at higher concentrations for much longer than intended because i poorly metabolize those medications, unfortunately i figured that out wayy later

Pharmacogenomics is so cool though
