Greater anglewing katydid! 🤩Microcentrum rhombifolium male, the guy who makes that tick-tick-ticking sound in the trees at dusk in these parts (midwest USA). Splendid leaf mimic and a local native insect 💚

The Lesser Anglewing #Katydid, #Microcentrum retinerve, a Squirrel Treefrog, #Dryophytes squirrellus, and a small beetle (probably Sternidius mimeticus ) all hanging out

A #TBT pic for #InverteFest - a newly-hatched angle-wing katydid (Microcentrum sp.) on my fingertip. I don't put myself in the picture that often, but sometimes it's fun for scale. Antennae for days. 🐙 🌿

Katydid WHAT?! 😂

Lesser Angle-winged #Katydid, Microcentrum retinerve.

Note: there is not much "Lesser" about this katydid friend, it's easily 6cm+ (2.5) inches long!

ironically i believe the insect has a genus that is so similar to a retailer that all the results are diluted, "microcentrum"
if you want to really feel how far the internet has fallen, try search to ID a frog or bug sound you are hearing at night in the outdoors

Saw this gorgeous man land in front of our car in the intersection at a red light last night. My partner held traffic as the light turned green while I was dashing out to save him. Male Microcentrum rhombifolium, he sang outside my window after he was released in my yard 😍🥰🥬🎶

Greater anglewing nymph, Microcentrum rhombifolium on box elder, Acer negundo leaflet. It's almost unbelievable that by the late summer this little nymph will become a huge katydid.

I love these broad-winged katydids (Microcentrum rhombifolium.) In September you hear them clicking in trees but damn if I can ever find one when I look. Only see them when they just happen to be hanging out on like, a chair or something. The mimicry of leaf veins on their bodies is amazing.

That looks like a Lesser Anglewing #Katydid, Microcentrum retinerve (the pronotum, the area just behind the head lacks a small tooth-like structure which differentiates it from the Greater Anglewing) , one of the larger katydids in the Eastern U.S. 😁

Angel-winged Katydid (genus Microcentrum, sp?) on our Common Evening Primrose. I was thrilled and curious, and the poor thing tolerated my many photographs, then flew over and landed on my shirt. Whoops!
