Today, the Mental Health Act has received Royal Assent. Although it may be some time until it is implemented, the new Act aims to allow greater autonomy for people who may be detained in the future.

While #patients can't leave or refuse #treatment, they do have legal recourse.

Anyone who is certified under the #MentalHealthAct has the right to appeal their involuntary status to the independent #MentalHealthReviewBoard.
