First day in a while with nothing planned. No shoulds, no musts, only coulds.

Body clock got me up at six. Enjoyed walking into a town still half asleep. Sat with a coffee and a podcast. Practising something important: letting presence exist without purpose.

The @rcn.org.uk campaign for pay reform, evidenced in our latest report, is being heard at the highest levels of government.

Watch Health Secretary Wes Streeting tell the Health and Social Care Select Committee how we've been 'banging the drum' on this issue.

Nursing doesn’t stop for Christmas.
We are a 24/7, 365 profession that carries a huge amount.

Whether you’re working, resting, or just getting through, you matter and you are valued.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Christmas and a kinder, fairer year ahead. 💚

"If we continue to reduce registered nurse availability to patients in the current context of financial pressure, it’s extremely likely more people will die" says lead researcher @alisonleary1.bsky.social
🚨 EXCLUSIVE: English hospitals that cut registered nurses saw more deaths while those hiring nurses saw more patients survive. Even when hospitals tried to fill gaps with non-nurses, deaths still went up. Major new study exposes dangerous NHS variation:

Holding the public health grant flat in real terms is an active policy choice to deprioritise prevention.
Prevention shift ‘left behind’ as budgets are held flat
Public health allocations are due to be held flat in real terms for three years, despite the government's intended "shift from treatment to prevention".

🧵 Safe Staffing vs Productivity: A False Choice
Glen Burley says nursing acuity tools inflate costs. Here’s why that argument misses the evidence—and what leaders should do instead. #NHS #SafeStaffing #HealthPolicy #NurseSky

Hospitals ‘needlessly increasing nurse numbers’
A widely used tool for estimating "safe" levels of nursing is leading to unnecessarily inflated staffing and costs in some hospitals, an NHS England director has suggested.

People end up in hospitals (and sometimes stuck there) because of what happens outside hospitals. Most of us working in health and care sense that every day.
