"In addition to Ramsay’s knack for being a playful director, credit is owed to Seamus McGarvey's blinding cinematography, Toni Froschhammer's destabilizing editing, and a boundary-pushing performance from Lawrence." - Cris

The driving force behind such a visceral performance is rooted in how the film broaches motherhood.

"Most of all, I recognized Ms. McGarvey’s project as an act of witnessing, documenting one family’s life in its daily tenderness, ordinary suffering and full complexity."

Maddie McGarvey spent 15 years photographing a young girl growing up in the natural splendor and deep poverty of Appalachia. McGarvey's act of witness is breathtaking and heartbreaking and life-changing. I'm honored to write about it for the New York Times.

There was a great, but rude, song about McGarvey from back in the day. End up with the lines:

“You’ve got to be Frank!
McGarvey’s a wank!
Wank, wank, wank!”

Simpler days… 😬😂

One of the most important mental health books I've read in the last decade, Darren McGarvey's Trauma Industrial Complex is absolute 🔥

Skip the subtitle, it's a much wider analysis of trauma and lived experience in mental health. Takes on lots of unquestioned dogmas

Another opinion on our cowardly representative
A couple of days ago, we compared the cowardly actions of U.S. Rep. Morgan McGarvey to the bravery shown by Miss Rachel, the host of toddler videos on YouTube. Finally, today, the CJ has another take on McGarvey's cowardice: One does not have to be a genius to know today’s Republicans traffic in lies, told with such rapidity that they’re almost impossible to track.

My current congressman and former congresswoman both swore off AIPAC poison last week. Let’s freaking go. 😤😤

Both of them more suited for leadership than Jeffries is.

Was thinking about going to McGarvey’s town hall to ask that question, but the schedule didn’t work out.

Darren McGarvey's new book Trauma Industrial Complex addresses many problems with current discourse about trauma, it's origins and effects. It's a must read.
