Been there. But there could be so much more done all over the country. Coordinated and part of a recognised tourist trail.
I see an occasional bus pulling up in Mauchline with visitors looking for Burns Heritage. There is a small museum but the rest of the town is embarrassing /

Burns based his poem about holy Willie on a real character from the village of Mauchline who, despite his piety, was occasionally found lying in the graveyard in a drunken stupor and got at least one of the local teenage girls pregnant.

my family are from Mauchline, going back generations. I wonder, did any of them sit under this tree?
September 2, 2025 at 6:19 AM
By chance, I met this ancient oak near Mauchline, Ayrshire. My hiking pole on the right gives an idea of girth.

Trees this age and size are so rare in Ireland that this would be celebrated. But in Scotland, they seem no big deal.

Irish nature is a mere shell of what it once was. Time to rewild!! 🌏

I mean if JD ain't doing karaoke in Poosie Nansies Inn in Mauchline tomorrow night then what a waste of a holiday.
Vance just wrapped up a vacation at an $11,000-a-week Cotswold estate, and now he’s moved on to a vacation at a $28,000-a-week Scottish estate.

If they can’t afford eggs, let them eat cake, eh?
