So I wake up this morning and remember that it was last night that I heard about the death of Manchán.

What a loss he is to Ireland and the wider world. I saw someone say that he would have made a great president and that’s the perfect tribute. Truly someone you would want to represent us all. 💔💔💔

My #Scape post for the day. One of my favourite Irish authors and folklorists, Manchán Magan, lit the fire that year. He passed away last night at the age of 55. 💔

I just found out Manchán Magan died 😭💔

When 32 Words for Field came out, I emailed Manchán about an interview for Smart Thinking Books. Over a short few emails, he spoke as if we already knew each other. No pretence or formality, just openness.

I was lucky to go to Arán agus Im last year & enjoy that openness in person

So sad, the beautiful soul Manchán has died. I knew him, mostly from when he was a Green Party candidate in GE2016 when I also ran 😢 💔 My thoughts with his partner and family. His shared words and reflections on nature and life made our lives better.

I saw Manchán interview Dervla Murphy many years ago at an arts festival. She was a huge inspiration to him growing up. They had so much to talk about in terms of travel but it was her time in Gaza and her experience there that he was drawn to asking her about the most. Two of the best.
