Same issues with beer.
A 30l slimline keg takes up less space than forty 75cl bottles.
Storage would be in the same conditions as the bottles.
If it's keykeg or similar then no gas comes into contact with the product, as it's basically a large bag in box.

I wouldn't be sure that the Italian love of the handpump is in any way connected to cask ale. Everywhere in Italy that I've looked under the counter, it's been KeyKeg.
