"Average Huntsman eats 3 spiders a year" factoid actually a statistical error. Average Huntsman eats zero per year. Nora and Yang daring each other to eat more spiders creates an outlier and should not have been counted.

We live with spiders that are so big they make noise when they run across the room. They’re intimidating but harmless and I now realize they are just as unhappy to encounter us as we are, but the first time I saw one I simply started packing my bags to move away permanently

I think when people talk about Australia's wildlife (at least for me) it's more about the size of a huntsman or something. Lol. Your spiders look massive! 😭

When we lived in Australia I would catch and release the huge Huntsman spiders who would wander in if I was dumb enough to leave a window open at night with the lights off. Had one single cockroach make it past those arachnid guards in the four years we lived there.

I just saw what I believe to be the biggest huntsman I’ve ever encountered in my entire life and I have seen sooo many huntsmen. It ran away too fast to get a pic also I was frozen. I’ve been trying to get less scared of spiders but it’s hard bc they move like that

ooh what sort was it? I haven’t seen any really big spiders in Portugal and now I feel vaguely cheated. TBH it would take a lot to compete with australian huntsman spiders. They also prefer to hang out over beds.

As another reply mentioned, looks like a huntsman, maybe Heteropoda. iNat can probably get you to species. I remember seeing a similar one on Oshima island. Faster than you'd expect, so they often are startling, but harmless to humans. I don't think Japan has any medically significant spiders
