by our neglect, we’ve allowed our young people to suffer a bad case of arrested development. But thanks to the roundtable, I think we may be ready to do something to give the young a fairer deal, writes Ross Gittins. #auspol #economicroundtable
We have arrested the development of our young
I hope you’re not among those silly people who concluded last week’s economic reform roundtable was just a talkfest that will lead to nothing concrete. Breaking news: we have to get together and talk about things before we agree on what our biggest problems are and what we will do about them.

Nobody likes paying taxes, but few consider what cutting them means for the country. Instead of complaining and expecting others to fix things, people should offer solutions; yet critics often reject ideas without offering better ones.

Most of the “reforms” the business lobby groups are calling for, in the name of improving productivity, are really intended to help them increase profit, writes Ross Gittins. #auspol #productivity #economicroundtable
I’ve changed my mind about red tape, but cutting it won’t solve everything
This is the week to understand something most people don’t: businesses don’t do productivity.

3/ I think this talkfest of vested interests also ignored the ‘elephant in the room’ - and that is Australia’s economy is far too narrow and vulnerable to global shocks. It’s well documented our economy is not diverse enough, we rank about 150 in the world…

1/ You see the agenda items for this talkfest of vested interests and how AI has got itself in the faces of political decision makers. AI is relentless in its goal to replace humans; the rich don’t want to pay workers. And they want to control the masses…

If the government wants to get the community behind a productivity push, it needs to do much more to explain what it is and how it works. Productivity is too often confused with efficiency, higher output and longer hours. #auspol #economicroundtable #productivity
Modelling consultative ineptitude at the economic roundtable
It’s to be hoped the federal government’s Economic Reform Roundtable being held this week signifies an intention to do more about something that truly matters – better productivity.

Jim Chalmers #EconomicRoundTable needs to start looking at an economy that isn't reliant on consumption and productivity.
Our planet can't keep sustaining this broken model.
Profit and greed must stop.

Despite the growing costs of climate change, the Government’s refusal to release the National Climate Risk Assessment is keeping the Australian public in the dark.

The report should be released - Australians deserve to know the facts.

1/ Productivity seems to be the ‘big’ issue we are facing in Australia.
As far as I can see ‘productivity’ has a multitude of inputs that drive it.

Just think, back then, the average Australian family could buy a house on a single modest household income, yet after all the productivity reform in the 70s and 90s, and income growth, two people working full time can’t afford a diddly squat. #auspol #economicroundtable
