Drive pool status in #antifa #torrent server. Balancing pretty well! Duplication mostly complete. Software is Stablebit Drivepool on Tiny10.

Why do you want a RAID array at all these days. Just get something like Stablebit Drivepool and hook up any size drives you want and forget about it. Raid arrays are not even worth it these days.
And get a new case that can hold up to 20 hdds and forget about it and keep adding drives to the pool.

i may do the nas again "the right way", using truenas or whatever, at some point, but i was able to stand the nas up quickly with just a few drives and the software "stablebit drivepool", which was a boon towards getting it stood up at all with my weak attention span

Docker + DrivePool: a match made in the absolute deepest pits of hell.

All the SATA HDDs are pooled, hence the DrivePool virtual drive in the screenshot ;)

Hourly VSS snapshots via Scheduled Tasks. Bare metal backup via Veeam B&R (to a separate server), file backup to OneDrive via Duplicati w/ client-side encryption.

Good idea tho!
Nice.

I’d combine them into one volume and make hourly snapshots of the OS install and all personal files.

You could also write a script to download all of the audio/video from a YouTube account.

I did that once, forgot about it, and filled my HDD with every Boiler room set ever in 72hrs.

For Windows: I've been using Stablebit Drivepool for years now. It writes to a hidden folder on a normal drive with full recoverable files. I have minimized data loss over other systems I've used in the past because of this.

Also allows for mixed drive sizes and types. Performance is decent.

Wish me luck! Removing a couple of drives from the pool. Always makes me nervous when I mess with critical data. But I need to make a redundant server to prevent future loss due to hardware loss. #DrivePool #Synology #NAS

shouts out to stablebit scanner and drivepool tho, drivepool moved all the files off of the driver overnight, as soon as the SMART data indicated the reallocated sectors. <3

all FOUR disks in my 60TB array now say this.

it's either some weirdness with stablebit drivepool and torrenting over SMB or the drive enclosure is bad. jesus fucking christ

I have a Jellyfin server but I have yet to find a drive management solution on Linux that is as easy as StableBit DrivePool. I don't want to futz with RAID and my server drives are all different sizes. So I stick with Windows.

Something that always confused me about Synology setups is that I want to have file duplication (simple!) without RAID configuration (complex!). Is that possible? It seems like your only duplication options are to use RAID which is just a pain compared to something like Stablebit DrivePool.

I just had to learn how to mount my 20 drivepool drives individually as directories on C:\. That was new, but kind of cool. We're going to try snapraiding them so I don't lose data, hopefully, the next time one goes poof.
