I don't have the full language for it yet but @chaclo.blacksky.app is bringing up a good conversation about how architecture is getting flattened and removing the visual diversity from many cities. This extends to the homogenization of our country as language and fashion are also being flattened

Chromophobia in action, it’s becoming more and more intense, too.

Rosalind Galt's Pretty, Brian Price's Color, Melodrama and the Problem of Interiority, David Bachelor's Chromophobia and Luminous and the Grey, and then stuff from Arnheim, Cavell, and Wittgenstein on Colour are the texts I used last time which are making a reappearance!

Those of you who are noticing the homogenization of design &
color …

if you would like to learn more look up the book “chromophobia”
As well as any Art books on Surrealism, or Fascism & Art.

in light of pantone choosing white supremacy as the color of the year, I recommend reading Chromophobia by David Batchelor

I don’t know if the Pantone “Cloud Dancer” discourse has reached Bluesky yet, but I highly recommend the chapter “White” from David Batchelor’s brilliant book Chromophobia to interject some scholarly context into the debate. In fact, Pantone execs should have read it.

Pantones color of the year basically being white is… 😬 the epitome of mediocrity and chromophobia ESPECIALLY with current historical events and the catering to white supremacy.
Choosing it NOW was a choice.

The Pantone color of the year stuff reminds me, I've really gotta read Chromophobia.
December 5, 2025 at 1:00 AM
anyone read Chromophobia by David Batchelor?
Pantone’s 2026 color of the year is technically not a color at all — meet Cloud Dancer, the first-ever white shade to receive the designation from the world’s color authority.
Pantone makes a surprising choice for its 2026 color of the year
We did not see that coming.

Don't forget that a major component of the shunning of vibrant colors has its roots in colonialism and white supremacy.

There are some great articles on the subject of chromophobia and colonialism. This one manages to summarize the idea fairly well: www.linkedin.com/pulse/chromo...
Social media and the parallel evolution of “cringe” has robbed the world of whimsy and color.

There were times not long ago when the absurd and outlandish could fire our imaginations.

Never forget what they took from you!

The dress isn't great, but holy shit that thread is bullshit from top to bottom. I'm begging everyone with an iota of interest in any sort of visual art (fashion included) to read David Batchelor's "Chromophobia".
