I replaced it with a CIFS share which was flawless and much faster.

Except for the fuckery […]

Year-end fundraising is upon us at CIFS. Your donation helps us fight for our clients. Alan Butts was wrongfully convicted of shaking a baby in his care and spent nearly 20 years in Ohio prison before being exonerated early last year. You make this work possible.

I guess I'm the fool but I thought moving my mounts to systemd units would be neat... just to find out that systemd already has an built-in fstab generator. I guess I could uniformly integrate the units to my other devices needing cifs mount (my storage server)

I was just reading libxcrypt’s manpages and see why old CIFS is deprecated. The passwords are practically cleartext, the hashing is so terrible!

My god, they are so incompetent at Microsoft.

mystery time. pc can ssh local server, but session eventually freezes. pc can ping server fast, no dropped packets. cifs mounts on pc from server freeze. scp from pc to server crawls and stalls. downloading file from server to pc over http works normally. other pcs can ssh/cifs/scp server fine. wat?

Hay cifs autonómicos de IU federal, y hay federaciones con cif. Parece lo mismo, hace lo mismo, pero no lo es.

O es que a ti nunca te han cobrado cuotas desde el PCPV?

It has a backup system built in, with a target choice of AWS S3, Backblaze S3 bucket, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and Wasabi. (And good old CIFS/SMB or a remote NAS of the same type)

Or combinations of the above, as you can schedule multiple backups each with a different destination.

adding Tailscale and judicious SMB/CIFS shares fixed a lot of needs

but 'cos Home Edition, no RDS, so i revisited the available VNC servers

tightVNC still wins hands down, and i still like RealVNC's client

almost completely shareable everything now, yay

@slamp This helps a lot! My biggest issue, besides the cifs mount permissions that I was able to solve, was networking, I was trying to use podman-compose instead of pods, and I think that is what was making life so miserable. I will follow this guide next weekend and see if I can finally […]

Wow, rootless podman + selinux + cifs share is a terrible combination. Going back to docker in my homelab for now while I learn more about this.

I am too used to docker on debian, moving to podman on rocky proved to be a huge challenge.

I will start podman on debian, and then move on to rocky […]
