#CFPB’s
““Goldstein asked McCarthy who the unknown visitors were, the union said, and when he would not answer, she went into the meeting room, introduced herself to the DOGE staff, and asked them for their names and whether they had completed CFPB’s mandatory training on handling sensitive information””

"This #CFPB’s willingness to distort the record, obstruct transparency, and put its agenda ahead of the public interest is virtually unprecedented, and this episode makes that clear.”

"The consumer complaint database is a very, very powerful tool. I highly recommend that consumers continue to use it even in this time, because I think companies are continuing to respond to it despite the CFPB’s kind of beleaguered status at the moment."

The cruelty is the point.

in January, all employees received the news in an email: Russell Vought, the CFPB’s acting director, was ending not only their disability plan but their dental and life insurance plans as well.
A federal worker at the CFPB found out in December that she had a brain tumor that needed to be removed.

The next month, Russ Vought unilaterally ended her agency's short-term disability plan.

The CFPB's mission has long made it a target, surviving a Supreme Court case and numerous attempts at slashed funding. But the same reason the agency is under attack is exactly why we must fight to save it.

Congress asked the Gov't Accountability Office to review the effect of recent stop-work orders, workforce reductions, contract terminations, and other related actions on CFPB’s ability to fulfill its statutorily mandated functions. GAO released their report on the reorg efforts as of August 2025

"In a Jan. 7 email, the CFPB’s chief operating officer told employees that, in addition to dropping the dental coverage, life insurance, and short- and long-term disability plans on Jan. 10, the agency would not process merit pay increases or performance bonuses for the most recent fiscal year."
Russ Vought is doing everything he can to target the CFPB and its workers, including illegally cutting critical healthcare and insurance benefits. But he underestimates our resolve and dedication to serving the public. This story about one of our members is case in point.
