Here's Snowdrops right on time for the Imbolc season. Snowdrops along with Coltsfoot and Dandelion are a few of the plants associated with Brighid. Snowdrops hold hope and strength, but like all important plants they have a darker side, being associated with death if you bring them indoors #Witchsky

For the weekend that's in it, why not read a Life of St Brigid, or, Betha Brigte. An Leabhar Breac (RIA MS 23 P 16) contains a copy of the Life on starting on p. 61. You can see the "incipit" (Latin for "beginning") outlined in red pigment here, with Brigte spilling over from one line onto another.

read it earlier today at Imbolc as an offering to my patron goddess
ode to Brighid after Andrea Gibson before I heard the folk tales and read the hagiographies someone told me you were the midwife to all of us. and I thought, if you were the one who pulled me into this world who called time to, as the poet said, give my first Yes to this world I would have remembered you the poet said, we make gods who look like us for a reason. deep down, we trust that we can be believed in but I didn't look anything like you and I was so sure this was all a mistake you were the goddess whom the poets adored and I was no poet. there was a sisterhood wrapped around this world like a sunrise who kept your fire and your well and I could not join. as if I was called to a monastic order of not-quite-good-enough. as if I was a D-student, unruly, unwilling, and you, a tired senior thesis advisor, witness to my irrepressible truancy I was so caught up in my own shit thought I could walk on water but fell through the cracks of my own self-pity so certain I was that you were just another one who I'd always disappoint, I didn't notice you had already set to work, casting the skin of my new life in seams of moonsilver filament, soldered in place by your lightning, then rushed to me when everything fell apart to remake me into what I always had been: yours you gave me a fire in my head a song in my throat and a yearning in my heart and I learned you can get pretty far in life with just that, but then you gave me everything: you gave me my name every morning now, over coffee I whisper the same prayer: my goddess, please, let me love while hurting take my hurt and show me all the secret ways to make it beautiful to make us whole in a world of splinters let my every breath after waking be the warmup to a song that someone needs to hear let my hurt find another that rhymes in someone else's chest, and let that be enough reason for both of us to stay let me hold aloft the cup and the hammer and scream your holy verse until I can't to heal the heartsick and the grief-struck let me be your lightning strike let me be your gentle hands too let me hear the bells of your sisterhood and find my way out of the dark let me be the reason someone scared of getting hurt doesn't have to feel alone my goddess, please, let me sing the secret song you sing to the brokenhearted in their sleep my goddess, please, let me find the secret words so that you'll make me into who I'm meant to be
