#Bandura
Fascinating thread. [An aside: Years ago I read some of Albert Bandura's work on "moral disengagement." It seemed intuitively true, especially in these times of greater state sanctioned violence. Has Bandura come up in your work? Have his theories held up?]

A powerful quote from Albert Bandura, who is best known for his theory of self-efficacy:

"People's beliefs about their abilities have a profound effect on those abilities"

From bandura strings to church bells at dawn,
her songs remember what empires forget.

Kyiv’s stones still hum with footsteps of poets,
and even rivers know the names
of those who stood and stayed.

Here’s a take on its history for English speakers. You can bet these origins and dates are being contested, (as part of ongoing info ops etc.) but there’s a broad outline that seems pretty solid.

Would love to know more from the experts, of course…

That’s some sophisticated musicianship there. Bravo to them - and man I love the sound of that Bandura!

Giants OF depth is now down to Matos, Encarnacion, Gilbert, and McCray. Only the latter two can be optioned.

They also only have one non-40 OF who could realistically start the season on the AAA roster, Turner Hill. Davidson and Bandura each have < 200 AA PA.

Due to russia’s constant shelling of energy infrastructure, cities across Ukraine have been experiencing rolling blackouts.

Ukrainian bandura player and singer, Kateryna Tkachuk, went ahead with her performance  despite the dark. The Ukrainian spirit is unbreakable!

@cherylisok.bsky.social wins the traditional Ukrainian bandura magnet!

The magnet is shiny like your support, and the instrument sounds great like a crying vatnik!

Thank you for your support! 💙💛

A friend came for dinner tonight and brought her Ukrainian bandura, an instrument I’d never heard of before, so here’s a video of her playing it for no reason other than it’s wholesome content for the New Year.

Me either. I wondered if it was a large harpsichord. Bandura...is it Ukranian?

That instrument is a bandura—Ukraine’s national instrument. For centuries it was played by kobzars, blind itinerant musicians and storytellers who carried Ukraine’s history and epic songs for centuries. Stalin’s regime tried to eliminate them, which makes its survival all the more important.

🎶en.wikipedia.org #トリビア
