NGC 2238 or The Rosette Nebula (also known as Caldwell 49) is an H II region located near one end of a giant molecular cloud in the Monoceros region of the Milky Way Galaxy. The open cluster NGC 2244 (Caldwell 50) is closely associated with the nebulosity, the stars of the cluster having been formed from the nebula's matter. The nebula has a shape reminiscent of a human skull, and is sometimes referred to as the "Skull Nebula". It is not to be confused with NGC 246, which is also nicknamed the "Skull Nebula".

I nice astrophotography night here in Holualoa HI. This is a 3 hour exposure of the Crab Nebula (M1). It's a supernova remnant 6,500 light years away.

This is a 182 minute exposure of M1 using a Seestar S50. I cropped it a bit to show off the nebula, since it was pretty small in the full frame. This is one of my longer exposures and it really improved on the quality vs only 1 hour. It was also a bright full moon.

PuWe 1 captured from my dark site in southern France 🇫🇷 😊🔭

This was shot on the EdgeHD 8 with Hyperstar at f/2 for a total integration time of about 6.5 hours using an OSC cam with the Baader UHCL filter.

PuWe 1 is one of the largest and faintest planetary nebula known!

PuWe 1 is one of the largest and faintest planetary nebula known. Its apparent size almost reaches that of a full moon! It lies in the constellation of Lynx at a distance of about 1200 light years.

The Crab Nebula (M 1) in the constellation Taurus was the second prominent supernova remnant that I captured this January. It is already visible with larger binoculars, but all the nice filaments only show up in the photo. Total integration: 6h 26min #astrophotography 🔭

SH2-140 is an emission nebula. Some refer to it unofficially as the 'Peak a Boo' nebula because it is partially blocked by dense clouds of the Cepheus molecular cloud complex. It is a stellar nursery where dense clouds glow illuminated by UV radiation. (per Wiki).

Red Spider Planetary Nebula from Webb

Oh what a tangled web a planetary nebula can weave. The Red Spider Planetary Nebula shows the complex structure that can result when a normal star ejects its outer gases and becomes a white dwarf star. Officially tagged NGC 6537, this two-lobed symmetric planetary nebula houses one of the hottest white dwarfs ever observed, probably as part of a binary star system. Internal winds flowing out from the central stars, have been measured in excess of 1,000 kilometers per second. These winds expand the nebula, flow along the nebula's walls, and cause waves of hot gas and dust to collide. Atoms caught in these colliding shocks radiate light shown in the featured false-color infrared picture by the James Webb Space Telescope. The Red Spider Nebula lies toward the constellation of the Archer (Sagittarius). Its distance is not well known but has been estimated by some to be about 4,000 light-years.

A yellow Quadrantid meteor passing through Ursa Major at 00:15 UT on 4 January 2026. The meteor is just to the right of the handle of the 'Plough' asterism that forms part of Ursa Major. The twin stars Mizar and Alcor can be seen above left of the meteor. The sky is a blueish colour due to light from the full Moon. There some trees in the foreground. Shot taken with a Canon 250D DSLR and 16mm lens at 6s exp, 16mm fl, f/2.8, ISO-400. A multi-coloured swirl of light created by a long exposure of the star Sirius using a handheld DSLR with 300mm lens. The camera was intentionally moved during the exposure, creating the effect. Open cluster M41 in Canis Major from 14 January 2026. Shot taken with a 72ED scope and Canon 250D DSLR on a Star Adventurer mount. Shot made up of 18 stacked images at 10s exp, 420mm fl, f/5.8, ISO-1600. Image of the Orion Nebula taken on 14 January 2026 at 00:27 UT. I used an Altair Hypercam 585C camera through an Evostar 72ED scope on a Star Adventurer mount.

Here’s a total revamp of my Dark Scorpion nebula, yes it’s still cloudy. I was testing the new MAS in PixInsight to see how well it works for dark nebulae and it seems to work really well for bringing out that extra dust and nebulosity and maintaining the colours. 🔭 #astrophotography
